CCRCE students will Rally Against Racism today

Media Release:
Wednesday, May 30, 2018

On Thursday, May 31, students from Truro Elementary, Truro Junior High, Cobequid Educational Centre, Bible Hill Consolidated, and Bible Hill Junio High will Rally Against Racism in a walk from CEC to the new Civic Square, Truro- and we invite you to join them!

From March 21, the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, until Rally Against Racism Day, students at the participating schools will be learning about what racism is, anti-racism strategies, equality, respect for others, and acceptance of the things that make us different.

Route Details

The rally will start at CEC at approximately 10:00 a.m. Students from CEC, Truro Junior High, and Bible Hill Junior High will walk from Lorne Street turning right on to Queen Street, down Commercial Street and on to Prince Street. Students from Bible Hill Consolidated and Truro Elementary School will join the walk along the route as it moves down Prince Street towards Civic Square in front of the Colchester East-Hants Public Library. Once at the Civic Square, walkers will gather for student presentations, music and entertainment celebrating the diversity of our wonderful community. The rally is expected to finish at 11:30 a.m.

Be Our Guest

You are welcome to join the walk at any point along the route and show your support for our students and this amazing day. However, as the rally is a student-led, student-focused event, we would like to remind all invitees that there will be no speeches or addresses – beyond those offered by students – unless specifically indicated by the Rally Against Racism Committee.

Inclement Weather

If there is inclement weather, the walk may be cancelled; however, the presentations, music and entertainment will still continue on Thursday, May 31, at the Colchester Legion Stadium at 10:00 a.m. Please watch the CCRCE website at for any changes or cancellation details.
