CUPE Retroactivity Pay

We are very pleased to announce the recent ratification of the new Regional CCRSB - CUPE Collective Agreement by both the elected Board members of CCRSB as well as the membership of CUPE Local 3890.

This collective agreement represents approximately 650 employees within our Operational Services Department which includes custodial, general maintenance, labourers, and trades classifications within our Property Services Division and school bus drivers, mechanics, and trade classifications within our Pupil Transportation Division.  The new collective agreement was signed on March 3, 2010.

The process to reach this agreement was a lengthy one as it involved both regional items as well as items at a lead table provincial level.  That said, with the collective agreement now ratified and approved by all parties, the Board and union are working together to implement the negotiated changes.  One very large item is the implementation of the new provincial wage rates and the payment of the associated retro funds.  Each of the seven School Board's involved in the provincial lead table has committed to pay any retroactivity - as well as implement the new provincial wage rates - on the date of March 25, 2010.  CUPE member employees of CCRSB will see the changes to their pay advice on this date.

CUPE Seniority List

A draft December 31, 2009 seniority list for CUPE members has been distributed to all school and office buildings of the CCRSB.  Please review the list to ensure the information is accurate and report any challenges to your Local Vice President by March 19, 2010. Challenges received after this date will not be reviewed.

Vacation Type Leave Requests

Over the past few years, we have seen a significant increase in the volume of vacation requests occurring during the regular school year from all employees. As a result of the increase of vacation requests, and in order to provide clarity and consistency for these requests, Senior Management has developed guidelines for all employees (CUPE, NSGEU, NSTU and Non‐Union) to follow when applying for vacation‐type leaves. To view the guidelines, please see the attachment Vacation Type Leave Guidelines at the bottom of the page.

H1N1
The impact of H1N1 on our ability to maintain appropriate levels of staff is obviously a concern. And, this concern is a variable beyond our control. As such, Employees should expect greater restrictions, an increase in denials and/or delays in accepting and/or confirming leave requests during this period of pandemic.
