Nicholson Sworn In As Member of Chignecto-Central Regional School Board

TRURO – The Chignecto-Central Regional School Board welcomed a new member to the fold at its regular monthly meeting tonight, Wednesday, February 11, 2009.  Margie Nicholson of Tatamagouche was elected to the Board in January by acclamation to represent Board District #4.  Nicholson was the only candidate to file nomination papers by the nomination deadline of January 27th.  As a result, the special election that was scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2009 will no longer be necessary.

“On behalf of members and staff, I would like to welcome Margie on Board.  I’m sure that she will have much to contribute to our discussion and debate and we look forward to working together over the remainder of our term to provide the best educational opportunities possible for the students that we serve,” said Trudy Thompson, Board Chair.
Margie Nicholson is a mother and grandmother who has served her community in various capacities over the years including serving as a member of the north shore area community health board, and as a former long-serving member of the Northumberland Arts Council.  Margie is well known on the North Shore as the Reporter/Sales Representative for the Light, a newspaper serving North Shore communities including River John, Tatamagouche, Wallace, Pugwash, and Wentworth.  Margie is also a former small business owner.

District #4 encompasses the areas of North Colchester and Eastern Cumberland County, including Wallace, Wentworth, Tatamagouche, Kemptown, North River, and surrounding communities.

The seat was left vacant with no one offering their name for candidacy by the mid-September nomination deadline. The seat was formerly held by Jeff Williams of Tatamagouche who chose not to reoffer.
