Yearbooks archived as CEC preserves its history on-line
In an effort to document its history and connect with alumni around the world, an on-line archive has been established for the Cobequid Educational Centre (CEC). Retired vice-principal David Higgins has taken on the task of scanning more than 40 years of Excalibur yearbooks in phase one of the project. Alumni will be able to peruse CEC’s yearbook history via www.cecyb.ccrsb.ca and through a link on the school’s home page under “Document Depot”. All but the most recent yearbooks will be available for viewing.
“As we continue the process, adding more yearbooks to those currently available, we hope it will allow alumni and friends of CEC to easily reconnect with the school. CEC has a rich history, and I am excited to help bring it to the Cougar Nation,” says Higgins of his role as archivist on the project. Higgins acknowledges the following individuals who have been integral in moving this project forward: CCRSB and their technical support staff, notably Cheryl Ewing and Shawn Casey; retired CEC Yearbook advisor and Science Department Head Bill Burden, current Excalibur Yearbook Advisor Denise Cameron, CEC Librarian Myrna Allen, and Technology Department Head and CEC web-page manager Kevin Mawhinney.
Phase two of the project is intended to expand the preservation process and will include CEC’s fine arts and athletic histories through photos, musical programs, and other historical details. Principal Bill Kaulbach further explains the reasoning behind the project; “We’ve been examining ways to enhance our connections with CEC’s more than 20,000 alumni and former staff members. An on-line archive is an exciting first step.”
