Superintendent welcomes students, teachers and staff back for new school year

As we opened our schools this morning, I wanted to take a moment to welcome everyone to the new school year!

I think we can all agree today is a very significant day for everyone at CCRSB. Our hallways will be filled with students again, some returning for another year while others are here for the first time. There is a lot of excitement not only for students, but also for staff throughout the system for whom students’ success is our core purpose.

The first day of school was always my favourite day as a teacher and a principal. The enthusiasm of the students coming back from summer vacation was something I looked forward to every year. I’m quite envious of those of you who now get to experience that throughout this day and beyond. In fact, I spent the morning at Harmony Heights to help out for a while and take in the wonderful sights and sounds of the return to classes.

One of my favorite aspects of the job continues to be special days like this when I’m back in a school and get to feel the joy and enthusiasm that students bring to the learning experience. Students can be so inspiring and I thrive on their energy and sense of hope.

This is the first day of what will be an exciting school year and I look forward to hearing from, and working with, our teachers and staff throughout the coming months. My wish for all of us is that through our work this year, just like the children returning today, we will all feel inspired, energized and hopeful for the year ahead.

Here’s to a great year in education!
