From the garden to the table

Students and community members have been working together to plant, tend, and harvest a school garden at West Pictou Consolidated School. On October 5th, the students were joined by Chef, Ryan Skelton, who helped students create recipes that fit their garden perfectly! It was a wonderful learning experience for students and proved that children are more open to eating healthy foods when they have been involved in the process of creating a meal, from the garden to the table. Students were excited to eat the foods they had grown themselves. 

On the menu for October 5th: 

  • Potato and corn chowder
  • Carrot muffins
  • Beets with Aged Balsamic Dressing
  • Honey Roast carrots
  • Garden club coleslaw and dressing
