CCRSB seeking nominations for Provincial Education Week Awards
The Chignecto-Central Regional School Board (CCRSB) is seeking nominations for educators who exemplify the Provincial Education Week 2015 theme: Schools as Communities: Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors.
This year, Provincial Education Week will be celebrated from April 19-25. Schools as Communities: Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors., focuses on honouring educators who work to support student development by engaging the community through service learning, community projects and co-operative education. It also acknowledges the important role that local and regional community organizations play in quality public education.
Schools are the pillars of our communities. They are bricks and mortar that come to life to form a vibrant meeting place to serve the needs of students and the community. Schools as Communities is the idea that schools aren’t a part of the community but the embodiment of the community. While schools are places of learning, they also serve as centres for social activism, democratic debate, sporting events and spiritual awakening. Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors recognizes the important role that teachers, education partners and our schools play in our communities and our society. Behind every good school are the teachers and staff that help to make a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
The CCRSB regional Education Week Committee, consisting of NSTU Local representatives, elected Board members and CCRSB central office staff, will consider all nominations. One name will be selected from each of the three NSTU locals within the Board, and those individuals will be recommended to the Provincial Education Week Committee to receive provincial recognition during Provincial Education Week. The provincial awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday April 22, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. (location to be determined.)
The nomination deadline is Friday, February 20, 2015.
Provincial Education Week is a joint initiative of the Nova Scotia Teacher’s Union, the Nova Scotia School Boards Association, the Federation des parents acadiens de la Nouvelle-Ecosse, the Nova Scotia Department of Education, the Nova Scotia Federation of Home and School Associations, the Association of Nova Scotia Educational Administrators, and school boards across the province.
