Our Board is made up of 17 people elected from communities throughout our Region during municipal elections.  They are parents, grandparents, and concerned citizens. They include business owners, engineers, retired teachers, farmers, office administrators, etc.  Our Board represents a myriad of cultures including African Nova Scotian and First Nation communities.  School Board members are the critical link between communities and the education system.  They ensure public schools meet the diverse needs of students in their communities.  Together, Board members are responsible for the quality of education provided in local schools within a financial framework allocated by the Province of Nova Scotia.  Board members make decisions on policy at regular Board meetings and have the opportunity to debate issues and obtain information at a monthly Committee-of-the-Whole meeting.  Board members serve on at least one committee of Operational Services, Human Resources Services, Education Services, or Financial Services.  Board members also serve on ad hoc committees, hiring and suspension panels, etc.  Board members receive a modest stipend for the countless hours they spend making crucial decisions that impact students throughout our Region.  Board members are guided in their decision making by their Goals, Board Mission, and Guiding Principles

  1. To maximize student learning through implementing and supporting effective instruction and assessment practices.

  2. To create a safe, supportive, and socially just learning environment for each student in Chignecto-Central Regional School Board.

  3. To increase professional learning community practices in the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board.

The Chignecto-Central Regional School Board will be accountable to the public for the results achieved in the Region's School. Within the parameters of the Education Act and the Public School Program, the Board will determine priorities; provide human and material resources; monitor and evaluate results achieved. Within due course, this activity will be implemented through the strategies/action plans flowing from a Regional strategic plan. Consistent with a commitment of excellence, the Board has adopted the following guiding principles:

  • to improve student achievement and self-esteem

  • to support the partnership of home, school and community in the development of students

  • to improve the quality of services provided to students and all other stakeholders

  • to further enhance the quality of instruction

  • to promote and support a safe and positive school environment conducive to teaching and learning

  • to achieve regional equity in the delivery of programs and services

  • to hold high expectations for students, teachers and community stakeholders in the process of life-long learning

  • to enhance employee effectiveness and satisfaction

  • to establish, implement and monitor an accountability process

  • to actively promote and maintain a climate of mutual trust, confidence and respect throughout the organization and within the community of stakeholders

  • to emphasize responsibility of, and established partnerships with, all of social agencies with impact on the development of children and young adults

  • to encourage participation by all stakeholders in decision making processes

  • to increase community support for, and emphasize involvement in, public education.
